Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP - Dancing Trees, Singing Birds, Tokyo 2007. An apartment building in a dense urban setting on a previously un-developed site, the architect sought to obtain the largest built area possible without cutting or trimming any of the existing trees. By mapping the underground root structures and carefully surveying the projected growth of the trees and branch sway due to wind, the building floats, carves, and steps around the existing foliar residents to create an organic layout. Villa 131 in Iran

Isfahan, at all times, has been a garden city, however, nowadays only a few gardens have survived. During the development of the city, beautiful gardens have turned into the streets or highways of the neighborhood. Nevertheless, in Isfahan, gardens and green zones are still alive and living in them of still flowing for the city dwellers. In this change, population escape from the cities and migration to the city skirt and the border towns grows day by day. The client of this project which has been located in one of the border towns of Isfahan had decided to live in the garden as well.

In Bracket Design Studio’s original idea for Villa 131, our land is divided into two parts, one of which is below ground level of the street and the other is like a sunken courtyard. With this approach that we stylized, private spaces, the pool and the courtyard of the house remains protected and unseen, as well as, sunken courtyard helps to provide comfort zone in the house by softening warm and arid desert air in the summer.

Pura Vida Cabañas in Chile

The brief for Pura Vida Cabañas by WMR arquitectos was to build a set of cabañas for a couple of surfers and musicians, with the main cabaña as the house. The driving idea behind the project was to generate semi-buried volumes placed at the start of a steep cliff, to achieve a sense of vertigo on the terraces. The visual focus and orientation to the west lies on the same axis as the cliff, with views framed by the surrounding hills.
